History

Midwifery Training College, Bolgatanga was established in the 1950’s. The college started training Qualified Registered Nurses (QRN). The college continued to train enrolled Nurses, the college went further to train straight Midwives in 1974. Then it continued up till the start of Registered Midwifery (RM).

 In 1993, the State Registered Nursing (SRN) post basic midwifery programme started. In 2003, the college started training Registered Midwifery Diploma which is also a three-year programme.

However, the Post Basic which is a two-year program continued and its still ongoing long side the Registered Midwifery.
